Its not very often I find my self in awe of someone elses achievements but hearing Ueli Steck's lecture at the recent Kendal Mountain Film Festival left me feeling completely gobsmacked. This guy sport climbs to French 8b, and last winter made a rapid repeat of the New classic winter mixed test piece on Ben Nevis, 'The Secret'. However, this is nothing when you look at his speed records for the three classic north faces in the Alps; On the 28th Dec 2008 Ueli Steck blasted his was up the north face of the Grandes Jorasses in a record time: 2 hrs 20 minutes. his solo of The 1938 Heckmair route on the Eiger in an astonishing time of only 2:47:33 and finally Steck climbed the Matterhorn via the classic Schmidt route (TD/ED),in an incredible startling time of 1 hour and 56 minutes! Phenominal!!!!
